The museum of bags and purses Hendrikje has the largest collection of bags and purses in the world, located in a beautiful building on the canal of the Herengracht. In the museum you will be taken on a journey of fashion, art, habits and history by the use of an article of everyday use: the bag. The museum will show you the development of the bag from the Middle Ages until now, all in the city center of Amsterdam! There is no other place like Hendrikje, there are so many gorgeous, valuable, playful and surprising bags in one place. From unique historic pieces from the 15th century to timeless classics to modern designs and famous brands, you can find everything here. Recently the museum of bags and purses was proclaimed as top 10 best fashion museums of the world.
While walking in the museum of bags and purses you will find yourself in a different time, the collection of over 5000 bags in combination with the period rooms from the 17th century gives an unique experience. Take your chance to see Madonna's famous Versace bag! Also, the museum store is voted best museum store in Amsterdam in 2014. In their restaurant you can enjoy a cup of coffee, lunch or high tea with a lovely view on the garden. It is possible to use a period room for a wedding, business meeting, friendly gathering or dinner.

Daily from 10am-5pm
Closed on New Year's Day, Kingsday (April 27) and Christmasday
On December 5, December 24 and December 31 the museum closes at 4pm
Entrance fee adults: € 12,50
Kids 7-12 years: € 3,50 (including scavenger hunt)
Kids until 6 years: free
