The Rembrandt House Museum

RembrandtVisit Rembrandt's beautiful home, he worked and lived here for 20 years!

Rembrandt van Rijn was born in 1606 in Leiden and left in 1631 to move to Amsterdam. He bought the Rembrandt House in 1639 together with his wife. The price was 13.000 guilder, which was a lot of money in that time. In 1641 his son was born. Saskia died in 1642, the same year that Rembrandt finished his masterpiece 'De Nachtwacht' (the nightwatch). Even though this caused a personal and artistic crisis, he came out as an even better artist than before. He died in 1669 at the respectable age of 63 years old.
