Amsterdam's Smallest House

front windowAll sorts of tea in this monumental smallest house of Amsterdam.

Right in the historical heart of Amsterdam, is where The Smallest House is situated. With its 2.02 meters (6 feet 7 inches) wide and 5 meters (16 feet 4 inches) deep, this little building is actually the smallest self-contained house that can be found in the capital. The house, which dates from about 1738, is located in the Oude Hoogstraat 22, right next to the East India House and the gate to the Walloons Church.

The Shop

OutsideThe Smallest House offers at a surface of only 9m2 (≈ 96 ft2) a variety of fresh loose teas, pre-packaged tea, tea accessories and tea sets. They also have a wonderful assortment of delicacies as chocolate, honey, nougat, fudge and liqueur.

The Tearoom

On the second floor they have recently launched a new surprise: the smallest tearoom in Amsterdam! In a sphere of privacy and quietness, up to five people can enjoy (among others) breakfast or lunch, a modest Thé Gourmand, an Afternoon Tea, a special menu around the holidays or a tea course. All arrangements are based on one or more specialty teas from the shop and pastry from their own kitchen. Obviously of high quality.
