Metropolitan is headed by Dutch chocolate pioneer Kees Raat.
It all started in august 2009. Keest Raat found the perfect place in the Warmoesstraat for his newest adventure: Metropolitan. Daily he makes the best fresh Italian ice-cream, and delicious chocolade with beans from the Dominican Republic. Meanwhile different restaurants in Amsterdam, including Michelin star Restaurant Vermeer, De Tolhuistuin and The Lobby, use Metropolitan's ice-cream for their desserts. Come discover the world of ice-cream and chocolate while enjoying a ristretto, espresso or cappuccino.
The chocolate at Metropolitan is home made in a bar-to-bean process. The cuban beans, for example, are grilled first, then crushed and rolled until is a pure form of chocolate which is the basis for all their chocolate products. This basis consists of 70% cacao extracts, but also with milk chocolate with only 40% is in the assortment.
Metropolitan has 25 different ice-cream flavours, from sorbet to gelato. It's important that the ice-cream is only made with biological products: milk from a farm just outside of Amsterdam, Brazilian cane sugar, fresh fruit and nuts.
You will step into a little Italy at Metropolitan: a quick espresso at the bar or a gelato in the sun outside. Almost all products are home-made and the shop is open seven days a week from 9am - 10pm.
